Oh Dear Middletons! What has happened to you? My husband & I attended for an evening meal here recently, we hadn’t been for a couple of years or more but it used to be good so we thought we’d give it a go, wow what a difference! It was so disappointing. From the service to the atmosphere to the food. It had changed so much & not for the better. We were seated upstairs where it was so loud right in the middle of a rowdy stag do & hen party that we could not hear ourselves speak, nobody looked impressed to be honest, it made the place look & feel cheap. We then waited nearly an hour just for our starters to arrive (after asking 3 times how much longer?). Our drinks were also missed off (again after asking several times where they were) they finally came AFTER the starters, when our steak finally came out it was so chewy & red/raw we couldn’t eat it (we asked for medium done) by this time I just wanted to leave, what an utterly disappointing evening and total waste of money.

Me and my husband had a lovely dinner, food was good although 8 oz fillet on a small side, I guess we expected slightly larger but it was tasty nevertheless. I had a monkfish curry, which was lovely. Would come again

Went to Middletons expecting a nice meal but left with a bad taste in my mouth and not just from the food. My partner (who is Bulgarian) and I went in for dinner. She ordered first, then I did. Instead of just taking our order like a professional, the waitress (blonde, tattoo on the back of her neck) decided to throw in, "Oh, I didn't expect that accent." Why would you expect anything? Last time I checked, accents don’t come with a warning label. We’re in a multicultural world—being surprised that an English person and a Bulgarian are dining together in 2025 is ridiculous. No one should be made to feel like a foreigner at their own dinner table just because their accent doesn’t match some outdated stereotype. My partner was visibly upset, and honestly, she had every right to be. As for the food—if they put as much effort into seasoning the steak as they do making awkward comments, maybe it would’ve been edible. Instead, we got a bland, lifeless cut of meat that tasted like it had been personally offended by salt and pepper. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cooked it in plain water for the full hospital food experience. Would I recommend this place? Only if you want to pay for the privilege of being treated like an outsider while eating overpriced, under seasoned food. Plenty of better places in town where you can get a good meal without the side of ignorance.

We had a tasty lunch and service was good but a table of 4 ladies were very loud and uncaring of people around them. It was impossible to have a conversation. We moved tables but it didn’t help much. 3 older ladies sitting beside them said she couldn’t hear what her friends were saying so they were going. We asked the loud table to tone it down a bit but that only made them worse. It would have been better if the staff had asked them to continue upstairs so they didn’t interfere with other people’s enjoyment and they could continue have a good time without ruining other’s experience!

Came in last night for a meal with my wife because we love Middletons and it’s always great! But not tonight unfortunately. Can’t fault the food or service as that was great as always but we were seated near the bar area and a group of very drunk boys and girls had just finished their 2 hour bottomless brunch upstairs and decided they would spend the next 30 minutes at the bar being drunk and stupid! The whole time I was eating the whole group were around my chair, bumping into my chair and making me feel uncomfortable all whilst I was trying to enjoy my main. I’ve come to a restaurant for a nice meal not to a bar to be bumped into constantly whilst I eat. Very disappointed

We had a great meal here. The starters were great, mains were very good and the desserts were excellent. They gave us a glass of fizz each and chocolate and strawberries as it was our anniversary which was very kind of them. The service was very good and the atmosphere was good. The prices are okay and the steaks were not cooked how we had asked. However everything considered it was a good night. We would recommend.

Great service , very friendly , we were served by Boulaid, who was an absolute gem! Food was delicious , however one of the steaks was slightly over but to be expected at peak hour on a saturday night. (Still amazing food) 100% going back!

So disappointed in the service and drinks at the bottomless brunch yesterday, on our second round of cosmopolitans we started to notice the colours fading and the taste getting more and more sweet, this was because presumably the juice had been substituted with more sugar syrup. We asked the waiter about this and he said the cocktails were all premixed, but working as a bartender previously I was aware that despite being a premix, the cocktails should not change colours from red to murky white. It didn’t help that we saw the people making our drinks, then looking in our direction and chatting once the drinks were put down, as if waiting to see if we’d notice the very obvious lack of juice. The servers also began avoiding us shortly after the drinks were put down, before we had even made any complaints - we had the impression the staff could see the issue but rather than explain the lack of juice and offer alternatives, our waiter kept dismissing us and it began to feel as if we were being lied to. We also noticed my mum's drink having less cranberry juice in and her servings changing from the usual two drinks to one. We asked for another round of cosmopolitans and found the same problem, the drinks were disgusting by this point being so sickly sweet and having no juice in them for flavour, I've attached a picture of the drink we were served. This was growing from disappointment to frustration as every time we asked the waiter about this he told us this is how they were served and there was a 'slight bit of cranberry juice in' - it seemed our server was avoiding the issue and instead felt slightly infantilising as it was clear our drinks had changed colour throughout the hour. Again there was no offer to remake the drinks with more cranberry juice in, which was the issue we were having, and instead just telling us they were premixed and this is how they come, even though two rounds ago they were completely different. By this point, a small concern about the change in drinks had now progressed to a frustrating experience of being ignored and talked down to by the waiter serving us. Perhaps the most disappointing part of this experience was that this was supposed to be a birthday celebration which they were aware of but we would have been better off heading to Wetherspoons for a premix cocktail with some actual juice in...not the kind of experience we were expecting from a place like this. By the end of our time at Middletons I was just happy to leave upset about a lack of care, service and quality of drink.

Very measly portions of food, the haddock came with literally just a few bits of broccoli, could have eaten 3 x the amount. The brownie was half a brownie cut into a triangle, they can obviously make 2 desserts from 1 brownie! It was nice food , but such small portions, be a bit more generous.

Not a very good experience. The only reason I'm leaving two stars instead of one, is because we didn't have to pay for our food, after complaining. The food was pretty bad; I don't know how this place can be called a "steakhouse" when the steak was the worst thing on my plate. I asked for it cooked medium and it came out nearly raw. The baguette we ordered too, was rock hard. We had to wait over 45 minutes for this food, which made the experience that much more disappointing. The service was pretty terrible too. We were seated with drinks and then nobody came to check on us, for the entire 45+ minute wait. Even when we had empty glasses on the table, nobody came to see if we wanted more drinks. To top it all off, the restaurant had absolutely no atmosphere. It was comparable to sitting in a rowdy pub; which I wouldn't expect from a steakhouse.

Loved the food, bit noisy but it was busy. Staff all were really good too. Had to wait a fair while for the coffee to arrive. But like I said it was busy.

Booked a table for New Year’s Eve which is also me and my partners anniversary. The staff were all really nice however there was a serious problem with the kitchen and management. We waited 2 hours for our food and they didn’t bring the starter we ordered. They did take it off the bill and gave us a drink on the house. The waitress was really apologetic and very helpful. They didn’t have nearly enough staff for the amount of customers they had. Some of the staff looked on the verge of tears they were all so busy and overworked. Not a great atmosphere or experience.

Thought we would try a bottomless brunch at Middletons, as we've heard such positive reviews. They were very generous with their prosecco and cocktails! The food was delicious too! Although, there wasnt a lot of options with variety of food to choose from and limited veggie options on the bottomless brunch menu. We paid extra for some side dishes, even though they had run out of a few side options. I had the buttermilk chicken waffles. Portion size was really good for that meal. My friend chose the 5oz steak... not a lot on his plate, so it was lucky we ordered sides. Couldn't fault the service at all and we had a lovely waiter who looked after us. Overall, I would book again for a bottomless brunch at this restaurant.

Really terrible place. Manager doesn't care about customers. They were put of everything and refused to adequately substitute them didn't have Caesar salad and not even at attempt was made to replace if with done lettuce and tomatoes. Tried to fob us off with ordinary broccoli calling it tenderstem broccoli. No sweet potato fries. Don't go here expecting great things. Would much rather have gone to a less pretentious place like Rushcutters in Thorpe.

the service was terrible, no one cleared our table after our starters and then proceeded to bring up mains over. one of the burgers was completely burnt, the buns were rock solid. no one checked up on us. wouldnt go back. on the plus side the prawn starter was very good

Ordered the crispy squid nests as a starter and found that the lime they gave me with it was covered in mould!! I should have taken a photo but it was taken away. They did take the cost of the starter off the bill, but it put me and the people I was with off eating anything else from there which ended up ruining the meal. The staff were nice, but I've never once encountered MOULD in a restaurant, let alone one with seemingly such a high standard :(

Had heard good reviews,went for a birthday meal tonight and it was really poor,out of 6 meals 4 weren't what we asked for,noticed quite a few plates being sent back,sadly won't return.

We came for a dinner at 7pm on a Thursday evening, Luke served us and took us to our table, once asked what we wanted to drink, we needed a few minutes to choose our food, the server came back after a long 15 minutes, we ordered and waited 20/30 mins for starters, which we had no issue with as it was busy, and the food was great. When it came to mains, two were wrong, one steak was undercooked and the bbq burger came with ingredients that had been requested to be removed. The burger came back again and still had the wrong items on it, but we didn't send it back this time because we were hungry. The steak came back and was good - Luke gave us 25% off the food for the multiple mistakes and long wait times (we love Luke, he was great). - While this was happening, there was no check back until the other two people had finished their food, we were not ever asked by the other servers on the floor (of which had taken our first food and drink order), if we wanted another round of drinks, and we got attitude when going up to the bar asking for condiments (we were not asked when they brought the food out, and we had been ignored by servers previously when trying to get their attention). We then had to wave the servers down for the bill 10/15 minutes after they had taken our plates. On top of this we had been receiving rude side eyes from the servers all night (who had spent half of their time standing at the bar chatting, on their phones, instead of checking on their customers) which only further increased after we sent our food back for being wrong. This dinner was meant to a be a special get together as I live away at uni and don't get to see my friends and partner a lot throughout the year, but was devastatingly disappointing, especially as we have all had such better experiences here in the past. (pictures included are the strawberry fizz mocktail, and baby back ribs)

Booked for our racing team end of season do. Fantastic food and were looked after really well. Pre-ordered from the Christmas menu which was very reasonably priced for the quality of the food we received. Considering there were 18 of us at the table all the food was served and once and piping hot. Thanks for looking after us.
